Jasmin Kanevski, LM, CPM, MBA

Midwife

I live in Boyd, Texas.  I have four children Shai, Sydney, Storie, and Terran.  I also have three grandchildren, Caroline, Carson, and Casen. I have a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Texas and a Montessori Certification. I have a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool. I have been a doula and a childbirth educator since 1998. I received my midwifery education through the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program and have been a CPM and licensed in the State of Texas from 2004 to 2008 and re-licensed in 2017. From 2008 to 2017, I took a break from midwifery, to homeschool my children. I have taught many classes and have attended over 400 births at ten different hospitals, four birth centers, and many homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area. My philosophy is to provide families with evidence-based information so that they can make informed decisions that are appropriate for their care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond. I believe that women need support during labor so that they are confident in themselves. I also believe that God created women’s bodies to give birth. He is smart and will only grow babies big enough to come out.

I have had a myriad of personal birthing experiences, all of which help me to “meet women where they are” in their birthing decisions. My first birth experience was attending my brother’s birth in 1976. He was born at my mother’s midwives’ home. Then in 1978 my father and I were the only attendants when my sister was born. The midwives were 30 minutes late, my mother was in the shower and my father was dressing my sister. With my first child, I had an OB, went to the hospital, and had the standard hospital birth. Shai’s birth left me with a beautiful, perfect daughter and a lingering desire for something more from the birthing process. The Lord is faithful to give us the desires of our hearts, and with Sydney’s birth I was blessed to receive just that, my heart’s desire…a beautiful natural labor and birth, and another beautiful perfect daughter. Pat Brewer, CNM, Jean Sala Smith, CNM, and Betty Fairman-Hoffman, CNM were my midwives for Sydney’s birth, and that birth started me on the path of serving women and their families. With my third and fourth children, Storie and Terran, I decided to have home births, with Allison Ratliff and Jane Gandy, which were the highlights of my birthing experiences. All of my birth experiences help me to support women in a variety of circumstances.

“It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth.” ~Barbara Katz Rothman
